Our Perspective: Massachusetts Legislature Should Approve Telehealth Legislation

By Americans for a Modern Economy

July 27, 2020

The Massachusetts House of Representatives is poised to pass legislation to expand access to telehealth services as well as financially protect consumers utilizing out of network providers. A similar bill has already passed the state senate.

The current COVID-19 pandemic has not only shown how vitally important telehealth has become during this critical time, but also how it can be an important part of modernizing our healthcare system going forward.

The benefits of telehealth services are too numerous to mention but significantly improving access to care for rural populations and for those that are particularly vulnerable to disease transmission are at the top of the list. Additionally, the ability for a patient and provider to quickly and efficiently share information is critical for many patients, especially those with chronic conditions.

Because telehealth technologies are emerging, the necessary and proper roles for public policy makers will continue to evolve. But Massachusetts is on the right track and we encourage the House of Representatives to pass the pending telehealth legislation as soon as possible.
